Ric Chetter - From Radioland

Forced out of the studio, Ric gets into a car and decides to go on a beer and liquor run and takes you along for the ride. Although this episode is rather short, it took Ric a long time to record this episode and you'll understand why when you listen to this show. Also in this episode, Ric begs for money, sort of. 

Ric & Jeff sit down at the famous P&H Cafe in Midtown Memphis just before their Thursday Night Open Mic Comedy show. Their guest is comedian Sammy Marten. In this episode, Ric talks about keeping your work honest. Plagiarism is rampant in show business and it can be difficult when your work shows up in other places under the guise of someone else. It would have been pointless to use some goofy title like, The Doc Is In or What's Up, Doc? Frankly, it would not have done this episode any justice. Not to mention the simple fact we would have earned a proper ass beating for using such hackneyed lines. The truth of the matter is this, Doc Studard is a very interesting person. Funny, educated and quick to cut to the bone. All the traits needed to be the morning man at Radio Memphis. That, and a highly amusing conversation.

The 35th Blues Music Awards happened. Ric & Jeff were in attendance along with about 2,000 people. Ric took the mini recorder and wound up talking to several artists outside the event. As it turned out, being in the lobby, the balcony and down on the street was the place to be. Along the way they encountered the great Super Chikan, J.L. Fulks, Preston McEwen, John D'Amato, Matt Isbell & his rather pregnant wife Lisa. Careful, you are gonna learn something here.

The first remote production of this podcast occurs here. Ric and Jeff went down to Beale street to check out their friends Eric Hughes and John D'Amato. Along the way, they encounter a couple of real life Beale street drunks. Then Ric and Jeff join their ranks and get in on the fun. So much so, that Ric thought he was recording his interview with Eric Hughes. Not so much. Our apologies. However, you will hear Eric play a Robert Johnson song. You'll also hear John D'Amato and his band in this show. It's a virtual trip to one of the most iconic streets in America.

Ric goes a little taboo and gets into the often controversial topics of politics and religion. Though not aimed at being offensive, when these sorts of things get brought up, someone is bound to get angry. If you are one of those people who specifically look for things to get angry over, this might be the show for you. It all started innocently enough, the flicking of a booger and it went down from there. 

Andy Galloway is a Stormtrooper and member of of the 501st. He's also a maker, that is someone who makes things specifically for cos play in the world of science fiction. The world of comic book conventions are explored in this episode. Ric & Jeff grill Andy on all the things he makes, how he makes the costumes and props and where the best place to get all the things he needs to make all this stuff. Ric and Jeff have an interesting conversation about the problems facing local musicians trying to make it in today's world. Just how screwed up is the current system? They may not have all the answers but they sure give it the ol' college try. Ric lays out his plan for a Memphis red light district and should there be a shake joint on Beale? Plus, Ric has a very special greeting for Cleveland, Ohio.

There are people out there who think being in the radio business is the way to stardom. In this episode, Ric explores this phenomenon. There are things you learn in "... school of broadcasting" that have no business in this business. There are shattered dreams and there are dreams that come true to those who have never considered them in the first place.
